Fairfax County Approves Mosaic District

Yesterday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the rezoning of part of Edens & Avant’s Mosaic District mixed-use development to allow for 112 new luxury townhomes by EYA.  The 31-acre Mosaic District is a redevelopment project of the former Merrifield Multiplex Cinema at Gallows Road and Lee Highway in Fairfax.

The retail center is under construction and will soon include such boutique retailers as Matchbox, Black Restaurant Group, Taylor Gourmet, MOM’s Organic Market, Angelika Film Center & Café and a variety of other DC-area favorites. Built to LEED-ND standards, the project will bring exciting, quality shops and restaurants in a walkable, urban environment. A Metro shuttle will operate onsite from Mosaic District to the Dunn-Loring Metro station on the orange line. The first shops are expected to open in October 2012.

EYA will be constructing 112 four-level townhomes with rooftop terraces, similar to its other actively selling neighborhoods in Washington and Alexandria. Exterior architecture will include a combination of two-tone brick with painted HardiePanel bay windows, a variation of projections, Juliet balconies and ornamental iron railing systems on the rooftop terraces. The homes are a perfect fit for Mosaic District and the urban savvy homebuyers EYA caters to.
