EYA & DCHA Celebrate Capitol Quarter’s Completion

November 1, 2012 | by

Last Wednesday, October 24, 2012, EYA gathered with the DC Housing Authority, DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, HUD and Councilmember Tommy Wells to celebrate the completion of Capitol Quarter.

EYA’s Capitol Quarter was hailed as the nation’s leading example of how private companies, housing authorities and municipalities can work together to design and build a neighborhood for residents of all income levels. The seven-city-block redevelopment project includes affordable rental homes, workforce homes and market-rate townhomes in the new ballpark district called Capitol Riverfront.

Government leaders praised the architecture, construction quality, landscaping and overall income integration. Two residents spoke, one market-rate and one public-housing, and both commented that living at Capitol Quarter is a truly life changing experience and they can’t wait to enjoy the neighborhood’s new amenities.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was covered by NBC’s Tom Sherwood and you can view the clip here.

Capitol Quarter is EYA’s seventh development in the District of Columbia and the company has built over 30 neighborhoods throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

Give to DC Foster Children with Capitol Quarter’s Toy Drive

    December 6, 2011 | by

new townhouses dc "capitol hill" "nationals ball park" southeast "best kids" holiday "toy drive"

Brighten a local foster child’s holiday this year by donating to the toy drive at EYA’s Capitol Quarter townhouse community in Southeast DC. All donations will go directly to BEST Kids, a one-of-a-kind mentoring program based in Capitol Hill. Please drop off unwrapped toys, books or other entertainment items for children aged six to 17 years old at our Sales Office located at 1020 4th Street SE. We are collecting donations daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through December 20th.

BEST Kid’s mission is to promote better futures for youth in the District of Columbia’s child welfare system by developing and supporting one-on-one mentoring relationships between the youth and caring, consistent adults. In the District, 92.6% of youth eligible for adoption will wait more than two years for families, while nationally 84 percent of adoptable youth will enter permanent homes in less than a year.  BEST Kids works to ensure the District’s foster children have consistent adult mentors upon who they can rely from as early as 6 years of age and often long after they leave the foster system.

In advance, we at EYA thank you for your contributions to BEST Kids and hope that you enjoy this holiday season in your neighborhood. Here’s to a great 2012 for Capitol Hill!

EYA Releases the Final 12 Homes at Capitol Quarter

    October 20, 2011 | by

It seems like just yesterday that EYA opened for sales at Capitol Quarter. The 2006 grand opening was met with great anticipation and excitement. Visionary home buyers camped out in line for days for the first chance to own in what would be one of DC’s most sought after neighborhoods.

The promise of new neighbors fueled expectations of something great coming to what is now known as Capitol Riverfront: Nationals Stadium, Yards Park on the Waterfront, Boilermaker Shops and Restaurants, a brand new headquarters campus for Department of Transportation, and more.

Since then, EYA has sold 90% of its 323 new homes at Capitol Quarter and a few early home buyers have seen appreciation of nearly 40% from their original home purchase price. It didn’t take long for Washingtonians to appreciate how special Capitol Quarter is, with historically-inspired architecture built to today’s envir0nmentally friendly LEED standards. Views of the Capitol Dome and Yards Waterfront Park don’t hurt, either.
