Sustainable, Green Model Townhome to Open at Capitol Quarter

Washington, DC – In the nation’s largest LEED for Homes neighborhood, EYA will hold a furnished model grand opening event at Capitol Quarter on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 12 PM – 4 PM.  The new townhome community, within walking distance to Capitol South and Navy Yard Metro stations, will soon feature over 200 new townhomes, with green building certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council.

EYA selected environmental design and marketing firm, P Four, to furnish the model homes.  “We offered EYA a design approach that is an extension of their environmentally friendly building materials and methods,” said Shawn Evans, President of P Four. “We will merchandise one of the model homes using eco-friendly furnishings, such as locally sourced art and accessories and furniture that is sustainable and renewable.”

The community’s proximity to public transportation, employment, and neighborhood retail reduces the amount of time homeowners spend in their cars.  Add to that environmentally friendly building materials such as Energy Star appliances and windows, water saving plumbing fixtures, high efficiency heating and cooling equipment, and low VOC paints and finishes.  The homes at Capitol Quarter provide more energy savings, better indoor air quality, and less impact on the environment than standard new townhomes – all qualities that the LEED for Homes program is designed to promote.

“Our green building efforts at Capitol Quarter are a natural fit with EYA’s longstanding history of urban infill development,” said Bob Youngentob, President of EYA.  “By combining walkable neighborhood design with environmentally friendly construction materials and processes, we are proudly taking sustainable design to the next level.”
