Parents living at Westside at Shady Grove Metro and in nearby Rockville neighborhoods will soon have a new option where kids can enjoy expending their limitless energy, regardless of the weather.
Kids Ground, an indoor playground for children, will open late summer in a nearly 5,000-square-foot space along Gramercy Blvd, which will include a waiting area where parents can relax and enjoy snacks from the café.
The owner, Jane Kim, said the idea grew out of her own personal experience raising two children 2 years apart and the lack of options available where both toddlers and older kids can play at the same time.
“When the weather is so hot and humid or cold and windy, it can be really hard to take kids outside to play,” Kim said. “In our case, we ran out of ideas on what to do. In talking with friends and other parents at the school our children attend and at our church, we realized they were experiencing similar challenges.”
The play space is designed for children under 8 years of age and will accommodate up to 80 youngsters. A café will serve food and two party rooms are planned for birthdays and other events.
Kids Ground will be open Monday – Sunday during the day as well as evenings on Friday and Saturday.
While parents are required to remain on site during regular operating hours, Kim is planning First Friday & Saturday drop-offs when supervised playtime will be offered for all children who are toilet trained. A simple dinner and planned activities will be provided.
Daily prices have yet to be set but Kim plans to sell yearly family memberships that also include classes and scheduled activities.
Kids Ground will join the expanding cadre of businesses at Westside at Shady Grove Metro, including Starbucks, Inspire Nail Bar & Salon, Fashion Cleaners, and soon-to-be open Westside Beer & Wine.
