If you are like many home buyers, you’ve likely spent many weekends touring Open Houses and hours browsing the latest listings. And at last, you found your [dream home](https://www.eya.com/)! Once you have the home under contract, it’s easy to get distracted with all the excitement, but a few small mistakes could end up costing you the home. Here are a few tips to help you through the purchasing process.

- Understand your credit score and know how much you can afford to spend on a home.
- Don’t make any large purchases such as a new car or furniture. Even if you find the perfect sofa or a blow-out big screen tv sale, resist temptation until you move in to your new home!
- Don’t change or quit your job.
- Make sure you don’t have any sudden changes in spending habits.
- Don’t apply for new credit cards, originate inquiries into your credit or co-sign other loans.
- Don’t leave out any debts or liabilities on your loan application. Full disclosure up front will save you a lot of headaches down the road!
