What is geothermal heating & cooling and how does it work?

Geothermal systems leverage the natural and consistent underground temperature to heat and cool the home in an efficient, environmentally-friendly and cost effective manner.

A heat pump is installed in the home with a closed vertical ground loop that extends below the home containing a circulating water mixture that is used for heating and cooling.

In the winter, the cold water mixture descends down through the loop, absorbs heat from the ground, then ascends back up to the heat pump delivering warmer air to the home.

In the summer, warm air from the home is drawn into the heat pump. The heat is extracted and pumped into the ground loop, where it is cooled by the earth. The now cool air is blown back through the home.

Geothermal is a very environmentally-friendly method to heat and cool homes, as it uses the earth's natural temperature as a renewable source of energy.
