    About the Project

Early in 2009, with a goal of transforming 194 units of aging public housing stock into an inviting neighborhood that reflects the charm of historic Old Town, the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority (ARHA) partnered with EYA to redevelop the five-block area known as Parker Gray.

The new mixed-income neighborhood, Old Town Commons, features affordable rental homes and market-rate luxury townhomes designed to match the scale of existing architecture.

Steps from Braddock Metro station and the Potomac River, the neighborhood not only preserved affordable housing but enhanced it by delivering amenities residents had never been able to enjoy. Today, ARHA points to Old Town Commons as a highly successful use of valuable infill land, and a powerful example of 21st Century public housing.
