Guest Post from the EYA Foundation:

This year, give thanks by giving back. Many local organizations are seeking volunteers to assist with Thanksgiving meal deliveries, holiday events and fundraising efforts. Here are just a few of the many volunteer and donation opportunities available this holiday season.

Food & Friends

Food & Friends helps people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-changing illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries. Thanksgiving volunteer opportunities include helping with logistics and holiday meal delivery. Clients will receive a complete turkey dinner for four and Thanksgiving Day delivery shifts begin at 7:30AM, 9:00AM, 10:30AM and 12:00PM. Also, if you are looking for a pie that will “warm your heart,” Food & Friends is selling Thanksgiving pies with the proceeds benefiting those in need. Pie flavors include Spiced Pumpkin, Homemade Apple, Oh So Sweet Potato and Nutty Pecan.

The Salvation Army Feast of Sharing

The Salvation Army is currently seeking volunteers the week of Thanksgiving to help with their 2013 Feast of Sharing event. Volunteers will help prepare and serve a festive Thanksgiving meal to 4,000 DC residents on November 27th. The Salvation Army is currently seeking local chefs to help prepare meals and volunteers to help with event set-up, meal serving and engaging with guests. Volunteer opportunities run from November 23rd to 27th.

SOME Trot for Hunger

If you want to do good while burning a few calories, sign up for the So Others Might Eat (SOME) Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger. The 5K run starts/finishes at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC and proceeds benefit DC’s homeless by providing food, clothing and healthcare.
