Tomorrow, May 18th, over 10,000 Metro area commuters will ditch their cars and bike to work for DC’s annual Bike to Work Day. Bike to Work Day is part of a national movement to get cars off the road and provide a healthy and safe alternative for commuters. Not only is biking good for your health, but by not driving to work you are reducing carbon emissions and helping the environment, something that is especially important to us here at EYA.

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Commuter Connections sponsor the events and helped to organize Commuter Convoys, which are packs of cyclists that start all over the area and head to work led by experienced commuters. Additionally, more than 50 pit-stops will be set up throughout the city that will have exciting raffles and delicious refreshments. Many of the pit-stops are within walking distance to EYA communities, like the stop at Alexandria’s Town Hall, which is only a few blocks away from Old Town Commons.

Visit DC’s Bike to Work Day website to learn more, and to find out about pit-stop locations and suggested routes.

Need a bike? Look no further than the Capital Bikeshare program, which will soon have a rental rack at EYA's townhomes at Chancellor’s Row.
