City of Fairfax Mayor and Council Green Light EYA Townhome Development on Pickett Road Project was approved through virtual meetings, a first for EYA and the City of Fairfax, and also includes the City’s first Affordable Dwelling Units (ADU’s) as part of the City’s recently passed ADU Ordinance BETHESDA, MD (July 22, 2020) – EYA Development, LLC (EYA) is pleased to announce that the Mayor and Council of the City of Fairfax, VA have unanimously approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Rezoning for a planned development of 50 townhomes to be built at 3500 Pickett Road on a 3.7-acre site currently occupied by Metro Church. Working with the surrounding community and city agencies, EYA developed a thoughtful design aimed at filling a regional need for low maintenance, well-priced homeownership opportunities. It is estimated that only 14 percent of the current housing stock in Fairfax is townhomes and this project will address demand for this type of housing in the City.
When Milli Arawaka was promoted to EYA CFO a year ago, no one expected that in a year, she would need to transition her team to work 100 percent remotely in response to a global pandemic. Not only would the transition require efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of her team, but as EYA joined together to create a COVID-19 Response Team, Milli was quick to participate.
Like most people who are balancing work and family, EYA President McLean Quinn’s COVID-19 experience can be split into two buckets: personal and professional. He said, “The balancing act of childcare and professional obligations has been a significant challenge.” With two young kids at home and a company to lead, McLean said, “My wife and I have struggled to fit 16 hours of work and 14 hours of childcare into our days.” To make things easier, McLean and his wife have decided to split their days in half. “The solution has worked well, though juggling afternoon calls with naptime, snack time, and playtime has led to some amusing moments.”
