We just heard of a great event to add to your weekend plans. Are you a history buff with a love of baseball? Then you should definitely come out to Magruder Park (on Hamilton Street in Hyattsville, MD) for an afternoon of baseball – vintage style. Participants will wear vintage uniforms, use old equipment, and play by rules that were used in 1861 to honor the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

The City of Hyattsville, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, and the Chesapeake and Potomac Baseball Club have all teamed up to bring you this 19th Century baseball event. The Potomac Nine of Washington will be playing a double header against the Cecil Baseball Club of Chesapeake City. There will be peanuts and crackers jacks (as every baseball event should) and Louie, the mascot of the Bowie Baysox will be around at noon to say hi and raffle off tickets for a Baysox game.

Need any more incentive? It’s free! Bring a blanket and lawn chair and come enjoy America’s favorite pastime with the Hyattsville community. We hope to see you there!
